Hiring a car in Puerto del Carmen

Driving in Puerto del Carmen
Driving around Puerto del Carmen and the island of Lanzarote is generally safe and straightforward, with A-roads connecting all major destinations on the island.
Hop on the LZ-2 via the LZ-40 to reach the capital, Arrecife, from Puerto del Carmen. Or take the LZ-2 in the other direction to explore Castillo del Aguila – the ancient ‘Eagle Castle’ – and Piscinas Naturales Charcones, where you can swim amid volcanic rock formations.
Away from the coast, both the sensational Parque Natural de Los Volcanes and Timanfaya National Park can be reached within half an hour via the LZ-2 and LZ-67.
If you’re new to driving in Lanzarote, note that speed limits are signposted in km/h, not mph. Standard speed limits in Lanzarote are 20km/h (12 mph) in residential areas, 50km/h (31 mph) in urban areas, 90km/h (56 mph) on rural roads and 120km/h (75 mph) on motorways. However, speed limits vary so it’s important to check for signage.
You’ll also be driving on the right-hand side of the road. If you want to overtake, do so on the left. Roundabouts can take some getting used to, as you must yield to traffic coming from the left.
